Let’s talk fashion … and climate change! Fashion and fossil fuels may seem worlds apart, but at Climate Week 2025, the two collided in separate but urgent conversations about where we’re headed. In one session, industry voices and changemakers gathered under the banner of “Fashion Solutions”, challenging the status quo of waste, supply chains, and carbon-intensive textiles. Meanwhile, fossil fuel’s continued leverage in climate spaces sparked fierce reflection: how do we evolve beyond systems that no longer serve life?

Generational conversations — from women in their 20s through 90! — explored these topics, and what lies ahead, at Climate Week 2025.

Fashion

In the Fashion Solutions session at Climate Week, designers, activists, and investors came together to ask a bold question: can one of the world’s most polluting industries become one of its most regenerative? From toxic dyes to microplastics, the fashion supply chain remains tied to fossil fuels at nearly every stage. But a growing movement — led by women, innovators, and youth changemakers — is rewriting that story. Regenerative fibers, biodegradable materials, and community-based circular fashion initiatives prove that sustainability isn’t about sacrifice — it’s about creativity.

(And it means looking more deeply at every purchase, so you can move through your day knowing you made a responsible choice.)

Fossil Fuels

A dedicated fossil fuels track revealed the scale of what still must change. And for us to meet those climate goals, it means we must reimagine how we power our world — with care, courage, and responsibility.

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty coalition anchored events across the week — from “Draw the Line” mobilizations to Hub Live mainstage panels on leadership and phase-out frameworks. The urgency was heightened by recent data: seven of nine recognized planetary boundaries are now breached.

Across both conversations, women’s leadership offered a vision of balance — practical, creative, and deeply connected to care for our shared home.

The Future

These conversations converged on one truth: transformation doesn’t start with technology alone — it starts with values. Every purchase, every investment, every conversation is a vote for the world we want to live in. You can support the change by choosing clothes made from natural or recycled fibers, backing fossil-free brands, repairing instead of discarding, and amplifying women-led climate projects already redefining our future.

Already, from coastal villages to design studios, women are leading quietly powerful revolutions that connect art, science, and sustainability.
