The Female Climate
Scientists Fund

Science communication that
speaks to the world

What happens when we take the critical work of climate science out of academic
journals and into everyday conversation? In 2025, Daughters for Earth launched
the Female Climate Scientists Fund to answer that question — and to ensure that the expertise of women scientists becomes part of the global narrative on climate change.

Founded with an initial commitment of $600,000, the Fund supports women climate scientists not just to do science, but to communicate it widely — translating complex knowledge into accessible insight that can inspire understanding and action across communities, schools, and public audiences. Our aim is to grow this Fund to $5 million, enabling us to support 20–30 outstanding scientists over the next five years.

The first two partners in this effort are Dr. Twila Moon and Dr. Heïdi Sevestre — both eminent climate researchers whose work combines scientific excellence with a gift for explanation:

  • Dr. Twila Moon, a glaciologist whose research on ice sheet dynamics helps the world understand how warming is reshaping polar landscapes.
  • Dr. Heïdi Sevestre, a climate systems expert whose work bridges atmospheric science and community resilience.

In early 2026, the Fund’s first speaking tour took these scientists from Texas to public stages including the Dallas Holocaust Museum, The Hockaday School, and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Audiences responded with enthusiasm and curiosity, reaffirming what we’ve long believed: when scientists meet the public with clarity and connection, a deeper understanding follows.

This Fund is not about adding another scientific voice to the cacophony. It’s about amplifying voices that can bridge worlds to help all of us see climate science not as distant data, but as a living, human story that should inform the choices we make.
